Garageland Music offers an alternative to traditional learning.

in·tu·i·tion:

the ability to understand something immediately, without the need for conscious reasoning,

or; a thing that one knows or considers likely from instinctive feeling rather than conscious reasoning.

Students will be encouraged to use their intuition in one on one and group lessons and encouraged and prepared to play with other students in duos, trios or bands.

Our teachers are experienced, working musicians, fully committed to our philosophy.

About Us

BACKGROUND

I am Pete Lambert

When I was 21 I left Canada to make my name in the music scene in London England. I spent 12 years there and I had the good fortune of knowing Joe Strummer who has been an inspiration to me since that time. Upon returning to Canada I started teaching for supplemental income and I discovered that I loved it.

At that time in a kid’s life when they start looking out at the world with wanderlust, music can be a force for good. Music is a place for a bored teen to put all his or her energy. You can turn a kid’s life around just by teaching them a song and letting them play it with a few new friends.

THE JOE STRUMMER FOUNDATION

Set up shortly after Joe’s death in 2002 by his right hand man Dave “Pockets” Girvan and Joe’s widow, Lucinda Garland, The Joe Strummer Foundation is an official registered charity, which provides support to young people starting out as musicians, in various locations around the world. They have leant their support to projects in the United Kingdom, Malawi, Sierra Leone, Columbia and Japan amongst others and have pledged to assist me in setting up my school here, deep in the inner city of Canada’s industrial capital, Hamilton, Ontario.

Set up by family and close friends a year after Joe’s passing The Joe Strummer Foundation continues to give opportunities to musicians and support to projects around the world that creates empowerment through music.

Mary-Jane Russell

Vocal Technique

Mary-Jane Russell is a remarkably young artistic mind, enjoying a very well-rounded career in this music industry. For decades she has focused on teaching Vocal Technique and Performance, Piano Technique and Song Writing. MJ (as she likes to be called) is classically trained with an Associate Degree in Vocal Performance with a Grade IX Pianoforte Performance, and she brings a wealth of professional performance experience with her. And while she can and does teach Royal Conservatory curriculum in both Voice and Piano (keyboards), including Harmony, History and Counterpoint, she prefers to develop young talent on an individual basis with an emphasis on helping to implant a JOY for the art form by emphasizing Ear Training, Sight Singing, Vocal Mechanics and Stage Deportment. She teaches the art of singing and/or playing through Building Listening Skills and includes Improvisation & Rhythm Training.
It’s this “Joy of Singing & Playing” ability that your child and/or you will take with her/him/you for life. It’s Got To Be Fun!!
